So, how many rooms are there, exactly?

Derek commented to someone he was giving a tour to, "yeah, all this space, but no closets!" Well, see, there ARE closets, but, they're so big that they're pretty much rooms unto themselves. So, the counting is a little nebulous. Chance has a room...but, really, he has 2 rooms -- one of them is a bedroom, one is a toy room. We have a bedroom...and a closet. But, it's as big as an office...with no clothes rods, because, well, it's too far to reach from one side of the wall to the other. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful problem to have! Plus, we have this pretty lame bathroom. I mean, yeah, master bath and all, but, it's pretty cheesy 70's avocado green. mmmmm. (In fact, the shower stall door was so yicky, I just took it off. We'll either replace it, or, just use a shower curtain very carefully....)

And then, there are 2 bedrooms in the basement, one with a fireplace, one with an exit door to the back yard. A laundry room, and a rec' room, also with an outside egress, plus, a long narrow bathroom with slanted cedar siding and the most fantastic bright orange sink! It's lovely.

On that same level is a stairwell room -- yes, it qualifies as a "room" - with the furnaces, hot water heaters (yes, plural...one for each wing) - plus shelving all along one wall. Plus, the other room built onto the front at ground level that is a camping/storage room. More on that one in the future, I'm sure, what with it's 2 doors and all. What? His and Hers? In and Out? We're not sure.....

Go out the breezeway door, and you'll find a door to the wood shop -- Derek's dream -- it's huge! with a wood stove for burning scraps, double doors that open to the outside, and, of course, a "throne" room -- then out the back to the lean-to-soon-to-be-"Awareness" room -- my long-dreamed for room of my own - clutter-free-yoga-stretching-hula-belly-dancing-meditation, whatever room -- also with huge double doors to the garden, plus 20 foot high ceilings. ahhhh....

Go back up the stairs -- choose from any of the 4 stairways, and there are 2 more bathrooms (Chance's and Iwalani's), 2 livingrooms, 2 kitchens, a den, and a dining area and another laundry room. Plus, the hallway connecting it all, of course.

Slink through the East Wing kitchen and peek behind the refrigerator, and you'll discover another stairwell. This leads to the darling attic bedroom, with a huge storage room off to the side part way up the stairs. This will be a room for our very own, Aunti-in-the-Attic. In developing tradition, Derek and I fell in love with a house that would stretch our dollars to a level of discomfort, and so his Aunt Iwalani will be renting the east wing from us. It's a perfect solution for all involved, PLUS, Chance is enamored with her and will greatly benefit from her love and regular presence in his life.

It really is a compound. Soon...we'll have chickens...and maybe a goat. and a llama...llama...duck
